What makes headlights turn cloudy and yellow
Headlight lenses are plastic with a thin protective coating from the factory. Sun exposure breaks that coating down over time, and once it is gone the plastic underneath oxidizes — which is what you see as that milky, yellow haze. Because it is a surface problem on the outside of the lens, it can often be corrected without replacing the headlight assembly.
What the restoration process involves
Restoration is a multi-stage job, not a quick polish. Each lens is worked through sanding stages to remove the oxidized layer, then machine polished to bring the clarity back, then finished with protection so the lens holds its clarity instead of clouding up again.
- Oxidation removal — the damaged outer layer is taken off
- Multi-stage sanding to level the surface evenly
- Polishing to restore clarity through the lens
- UV protection applied as a finishing layer
How headlight restoration is priced
Pricing depends on the size of the lenses, because larger lenses take more sanding and polishing time. Standard vehicles start at $99 per pair. Large SUVs, trucks and vans — with bigger headlight housings — start at $120 per pair. Services are listed at starting prices. Final pricing may vary depending on vehicle size and condition. If additional charges are needed for excessive pet hair, heavy staining, severe soiling, or specialty services, we will discuss them with you before performing any additional work.
What restoration can and cannot fix
Restoration works on the outside of the lens, so it cannot repair a crack, damage inside the housing, or moisture sealed inside the assembly. Those are usually replacement-part problems. If we see any of them, we will tell you before we start. Restoration dramatically improves clarity and appearance on oxidized lenses — but no restoration can promise a perfect result on a lens that is deeply damaged or physically broken.
- Cracked lenses or a damaged housing — replacement, not restoration
- Condensation trapped inside the assembly — an internal issue we cannot polish out
- Deep scratches or damage through the lens — improvement is limited
Do you restore headlights on large trucks and SUVs?
Yes. Large SUVs, trucks and vans are booked at the larger-vehicle price because the lenses are physically bigger and take more time on each stage of the process.
